excerpt from the letter his office released today regarding the details of what’s happened:
“I replied to the NYPD officer’s demand with a simple question: ‘Why? Am I under arrest?’ The question was based on the fact that (1) the officer had already grabbed me and spun me around, impeding my entry into my office; and (2) the NYPD officers stationed outside the building, to my knowledge, have never previously requested identification from any individual. The decision to check identification and to grant access to the elevators is made by the building personnel in the lobby, not the NYPD…
NYPD does it again! Fucking boneheads. The Manhattan DA is also on my shitlist.
OWS protester left handcuffed while having a seizure.
It is reported that NYPD kneeled on her ribs, maybe cracked them and another NYPD had a knee on her back. She went into a grand mal seizure according to witnesses.
More than a dozen cops were less than 10 feet away and were heard laughing at the women. The crowd call an ambulance and she was uncuffed and taken to the hospital.
TRIGGER WARNING Y’ALL. This is fucking terrifying.
Thankfully, Cecily’s in the hospital now. But I’m also curious as to the condition of the medic whose head was smashed into a window by the NYPD. This has been a rough weekend.
Jateik Reed and Ramarley Graham are two young black men who were attacked by the NYPD in the Bronx this week. The former was beaten by several police officers, and the latter was fatally shot in his own home, in front of his grandmother and 6-year-old brother. Occupy The Bronx organized a rally against police brutality on Saturday. The crowd chanted ”NYPD, KKK, how many kids have you killed today?”
Everyone, especially anyone who considers themselves a social justice advocate, needs to watch this video. And if you’re in NYC and you don’t have to work tomorrow morning, Take Back the Bronx has sent out a call for action at the courthouse, where a hearing is scheduled for Jatiek Reed (who is currently being held at Rikers):
Tomorrow, Monday, February 6, 9am, will be a hearing on his case. His family and his lawyers want the community to come and PACK the courtroom. And show the courts and the NYPD which side we’re on. Bronx Courthouse 265 E 161st Street.

Occupy Oakland fights back against OPD on Move-In Day, 1/28/2012
Meanwhile, twitter reports from the Oakland Solidarity March in NYC, 1/29/2012: “Occupiers marching up Broadway. Took over 6th Ave, then forced back onto sidewalk… Someone yells, ‘Sidewalks are counter-revolutionary!’”
If you don’t want to post up a wall of text on your tumblr, at least re-blog this as a link, there needs to be accurate information out there about this.
The media spin is pretty ridiculous on ALL the networks this morning.
I was there to take down the names of people who were arrested… As I’m standing there, some African-American woman goes up to a police officer and says, ‘I need to get in. My daughter’s there. I want to know if she’s OK.’ And he said, ‘Move on, lady.’ And they kept pushing with their sticks, pushing back. And she was crying. And all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he throws her to the ground and starts hitting her in the head,” says Smith. “I walk over, and I say, ‘Look, cuff her if she’s done something, but you don’t need to do that.’ And he said, ‘Lady, do you want to get arrested?’ And I said, ‘Do you see my hat? I’m here as a legal observer.’ He said, ‘You want to get arrested?’ And he pushed me up against the wall.
