IMPORTANT THINGS. ‘Specially in Chicago. Take care of yourselves and each other.
I got this book in the mail today, but I don’t know who sent it! It gives a synopsis of every radical leftist/anarchist method of praxis recorded to date, plus the theories and principles behind them as well as the pros and cons.
MYSTERY GIFTER— WHOEVER YOU ARE— REVEAL YOURSELF BEFORE I RESORT TO REFERRING TO THIS AS SOME DIVINE INTERVENTION (because seriously, don’t make me do that)
HIPSTER COP SHUTS DOWN MEN PERFORMANCE AT MAY DAY PROTEST
(And we wondered why JD Samson wasn’t waiting for us at the end of the march LIKE A POT OF GOLD AT THE END OF A COMMIE RAINBOW)

Unfortunately I had to work while this was happening. But I ran into some middle schoolers on the train who were coming back from the event. They handed me a flyer and we talked for a little bit. I sometimes forget how rad and mature most NYC kids are. In middle school, everyone I knew, including myself, seemed more concerned about TV or wearing the “right” clothes than about institutional racism. (Or perhaps we just weren’t as confident enough to talk about such serious things?) Anyway, we had a good discussion about shitty cops. Those kids, if not organizing already, will make great organizers one day.
The rhetoric of violence vs. non-violence is utterly irrelevant and insulting. My friends disappeared for 24 hours. Some strangers, who were weaponized and free from scrutiny, were deciding what was to be done with them. Pigs and judges have been given the power to determine the course of their lives. There is no such thing as non-violence. There is no such thing as safety. These ideas are complete illusions, and one can only hold on to them as long as one has the privilege to avoid the violence that maintains society. As we participate and live our lives, all we are doing is avoiding repression.
I am traumatized. I am having flashbacks, and the more I try to make the motions of my mundane life the more vivid they become. Work, school, friendly conversations all seem completely devoid of meaning. All I can do is tell the story of my experience and force the people I surround myself with to question the society we participate in. I am so fucking angry.
OWS protester left handcuffed while having a seizure.
It is reported that NYPD kneeled on her ribs, maybe cracked them and another NYPD had a knee on her back. She went into a grand mal seizure according to witnesses.
More than a dozen cops were less than 10 feet away and were heard laughing at the women. The crowd call an ambulance and she was uncuffed and taken to the hospital.
TRIGGER WARNING Y’ALL. This is fucking terrifying.
Thankfully, Cecily’s in the hospital now. But I’m also curious as to the condition of the medic whose head was smashed into a window by the NYPD. This has been a rough weekend.
Two suspected activists from the radical Russian feminist group, Pussy Riot, are facing up to seven years in jail for allegedly taking part in a “punk prayer” at Moscow’s largest church.
Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova are accused of hooliganism over the incident last month in which four members of the group cavorted and shouted a song protesting against the rule of Vladimir Putin in front of the iconostasis of the Christ the Saviour Cathedral.
Mr Putin’s spokesman has described the performance as “disgusting” and said the prime minister and president-elect regarded it “negatively”. The two young women were arrested the night before Mr Putin won a third term in the Kremlin on Sunday, and have been remanded in custody until a trial next month.ussy Riot formed in October last year and has focused on guerrilla activism against Putin, including an impromptu concert on Red Square. Its members use pseudonyms and wear brightly-coloured balaclavas and clothes for performances and interviews.
A video of the cathedral protest overlaid with guitars and drums went viral. As they dance and punch the air on the ambo, members of the group cry: “Black cassock, golden epaulettes; all believers crawl and prostrate.” They also repeat several times: “Mother of God, Blessed Virgin, drive out Putin!”
Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova announced a hunger strike after a court ordered custody on Monday, saying they both had a young child whom they should be caring for. They deny taking part in the “punk prayer” or being members of Pussy Riot.
Members of Russia’s opposition movement have condemned the two women’s detention and called for a lenient sentence if they are found guilty.
Alexei Navalny, the anti-corruption blogger, took part in a picket of Moscow’s police headquarters in protest over their treatment on Wednesday.
Navalny said the women were “bonkers” for what they had done but asked the church to forgive them and call for their release on bail in order to care for their children.
The incident has divided the Orthodox faithful. Vsevolod Chaplin, a spokesman for the Orthodox Church, said the pair should be “punished severely” but suggested a prison sentence would be too severe. A group of several thousand believers has written a letter to Patriarch Kirill calling for him to show mercy.
Pussy Riot draws inspiration from the underground feminist Riot Grrrl movement which emerged in the Pacific Northwest of the United States in the early 1990s.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
At a protest in favor of reproductive rights today in Richmond VA, protesters assembled on the Virginia Capitol’s steps. Police, many in riot gear, demanded that they disperse or be arrested. 33 people refused to leave the steps, and were arrested.
